Wiston Lodge first charity in South Lanarkshire to be recognised with Volunteer Friendly Award.
Wiston Lodge is focusing its attention increasingly on its fantastic volunteers. Following on from recent funding successes with the Vodafone Foundation, The Clyde Wind Farm and the Bank of Scotland Foundation, we are excited to announce that we have successfully completed their portfolio for the Volunteer Friendly Award! Supported by VASlan (Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire) through this process, Wiston Lodge are the first charity in South Lanarkshire to gain this award.
Wendy Johnstone, Volunteering Development Worker said:
“Wiston Lodge has worked with volunteers since we became a Social Enterprise and Independent Charity in 2006. The process of working with volunteers developed organically and, whilst we were committed to volunteering support and development, our policies and processes needed some TLC. We are delighted to have achieved this Award as it demonstrates the quality of our work and our ongoing commitment to our fantastic volunteers, who give so much to our organisation and to our visiting groups.
"Our volunteers are integral to our continued success. They work closely with the core staff team to create a friendly, welcoming community, into which our visitors arrive. In addition volunteers take on specific tasks to enable the charity to continue to grow and develop. In return volunteers themselves grow their skills, their friendships, their confidence and their sense of self worth during their time with us."
Wendy also highlighted some exciting opportunities coming up:
“We are currently recruiting for our new wave of local youth volunteers. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated local young adults (16+) to volunteer as seasonal holiday programme assistants. In return volunteers receive free training, free lunches and access to references for work, college and/or university applications."
There will be a FREE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT DAY on Saturday 29th March (9am – 5pm) which is a great way for established youth volunteers and new recruits to meet and get to know one another. The day will consist of workshops in Face-Painting, Arts and Crafts, Parachute Games and Drumming! All skills required during the holiday programme!
