How do I get to Wiston?By Public TransportYou can either take a train from Glasgow Central station or from Edinburgh via Motherwell to Lanark then bus service 30 to Wiston road end , or catch a bus from Edinburgh to Biggar. Bus services are infrequent and we recommend you check with operators before departing. Gracie's Taxis will bring you from Biggar. 01899 220643 cost about £5.

From Edinburgh (36 miles - One hour) take the A702 through Biggar. After a half mile turn right onto the A72. Follow the A72 through Symington village and take the next left at the T junction onto the A73. Proceed for about 4 miles, turn right to Wiston after the double bend and just before the bridge. Wiston Lodge is through the village on the right-hand side of the road next to the school. From Glasgow (40 miles - One hour) take the M74 to exit 11 (Happendon Services), then follow the A70 towards Edinburgh through Rigside village. Turn right at the top of the hill towards Wiston on the B7055. Wiston Lodge is 5 miles down the road on the left-hand side beside the school. From the South Take the M74 North to exit 13 (Abington Services) then take the A702 (Biggar/Edinburgh) straight on the A73 towards Lanark (do not take the right turn towards Biggar/Edinburgh). Continue on until reaching Wiston. Turn left and proceed through the village. Wiston Lodge is on the right beside the school. What are the Mealtimes?The staff at Wiston prepare fresh meals using locally produced foods wherever possible. Our cooks are well versed in preparing meals for groups or individuals with special dietary requirements - from sausages and chips through to a full vegan banquet, provided notice is given to order special foodstuffs. Mealtimes can be arranged to fit in with a group’s timetable, however where more than one group is staying, compromise can be made.Tea- and coffee-making facilities are freely available in both the Little Lodge and the main house. Tell me about the environment?Wiston provides a diverse range of habitats for a wide range of plants, birds and animals. We are committed to supporting our environment by moving towards sustainable development and education. We have an organic garden, and aim to recycle as much as we can. In addition, we encourage healthy eating, try to avoid processed food and packaging, and use environmentally friendly cleaning products where possible.John Muir Award – We are assessors for the internationally recognized John Muir Award. Run by the John Muir Trust, this aims to “encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to discover, enjoy and conserve the planet's wild places”. The scheme, which involves conservation and environmental programmes, can be followed residentially or through a series of day courses The camping area is in a large, tree-lined field with toilet facilities and easy access to showers in the main house. There is a campfire site and barbecue. Unlike much of Scotland, it is virtually midge free! Music and ArtsIf you are an artist or musician looking for a venue, Wiston Lodge is the place for you. All kinds of arts activities - there is space for music, dance, drama, crafts and art, and we have contact with a number of local artists and crafts people. Each year, we host a number of courses—Storytelling, Music schools for children and adults and a Burns Supper.In and around WistonWiston is a small village which most famously has played host to the Tinto Folk Music Festival, situated in the upper Clyde Valley with the nearest towns of Lanark and Biggar. The surrounding countryside with its rolling hills is dominated by Tinto hill or “hill of fire” used for Druidic festivals which has a Bronze Age burial cairn on the 2320 ft summit. Biggar town supports seven museums and a variety of shops whilst Lanark contains the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, a centre of social industrial innovation, containing amongst other things the “Institute for the Formation of Character”.
